Every dog deserves love, safety and a second chance. Unfortunately, many dogs come from situations where they've been abandoned, neglected or are simply no longer wanted. That's where rescues--and people like you--step in.
Volunteering with Happy Tails Dachshund Rescue can truly save lives. Whether you have an hour a week or a room in your home, your time and skills, your compassion can make a lasting impact. It's more than just helping animals--it's becoming part of a community that believes in hope, healing and new beginnings.
Fosters are an integral part of our organization. The more fosters we have, the more dachshunds we can save.
If you have a friend or family member that has fostered a dog, they will most likely tell you that fostering is the best thing ever--for the dog, rescue and them.
So, what is so impactful about fostering that it receives rave reviews rivaling those of Taylor Swift and Pumpkin Spiced Lattes?
From the minute an HTDR dog enters a foster home, the lucky foster family begins the journey of watching a pup transform from its fearful arrival state into a confident and capable dog. The excitement of experiencing the many "firsts" along with the dog, keeps foster families wanting to foster again and again. Showing a foster dog--maybe for the first time--what it is to be loved, is life-changing for both the foster and the dog. The experience is healing after loss, it's encouraging, it's mutually beneficial and eye-opening.
Not only are you able to help a dog prepare for adoption, but since you will know all of its quirks, preferences, routines, triggers and needs the best, you will be able to help it find the perfect home alongside the adoption coordinator.
"Fostering helps to teach our kids responsibility. Fostering brought our family closer--every dog we've welcomed has taught us something about patience, love and compassion."
"The house feels fuller with a foster dog around--not just with wagging tails, but with joy, purpose and unexpected laughter."
"I started fostering after the loss of my dachshund. My heart was so broken. Asserting my love towards helping an abandoned dog was so helpful. I will never stop fostering."
"I thought I was rescuing them, but each foster has brought a new kind of warmth and meaning to my home."
Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. We need volunteers in all areas of our organization.
Donating your time as a volunteer isn’t just about giving back — it’s about showing up where you’re most needed and discovering the power you already have to make a meaningful impact. Whether you’re helping with adoptions, grant writing, managing social media, or lending professional skills in marketing, finance, or legal counsel, every hour you give helps save lives and strengthens a mission rooted in compassion. Time is our most valuable resource, and when we choose to use it to help others — especially those who can’t speak for themselves — we transform not just the lives of animals, but our communities and ourselves. Your skills matter. Your presence matters. And sometimes, the greatest gift you can give is simply showing up.
